“a spatial experience should evoke a response from our senses – of sight, touch and sound, the choice of materials are central to our design process. A hierarchy usually exists within the composition of materials for each project”. Kerry Hill AO

A combination of insulated concrete formwork and dark stained spotted gum timber immaculately details the modern elevation of the five discrete pavilions. Elements of nature are timelessly captured in each living space through floor to ceiling glass windows and slider doors. Deep screened verandas expand the living spaces into the surrounding landscape, blurring the edges of the architecture.
The gallery-inspired vestibule features floor-to-ceiling glass and Spotted Gum timber-FX picture hanging system throughout the gallery, along with charcoal-infused heated concrete flooring. Flowing through to the main living area and kitchen, a sense of peace and serenity is evident with glimpses of the private grassed courtyard, lush Koi filled pond and mesmerising views of the tranquil bushland. Full height timber and steel sliding screens provide precise sun control and privacy.
The built-in Chiminee Philippe slow combustion/open fireplace commands attention in the living space, complimenting the exquisite spotted gum kitchen. This entertaining area features granite composite benchtops with quality carpentry, an integrated Miele dishwasher, a 900ml Miele oven with an induction cooktop, and a Vinte wine fridge. The scullery boasts endless storage ideas, a separate sink, oven, a large pantry, and cavity sliders for privacy.
Floor to ceiling retractable glass doors creates a seamless transition between inside and out. The formed concrete extends across the entertaining area, kitchen, daybed, and fireplace. The imposing view is timeless, compelling, and irresistible, with the Jarrah and Marri trees being uplit in the evenings. Timber decking connects the north-eastern side of the home and is accessible via the main living area. The space extends towards the forest and bushland and provides unobstructed views with the sounds of the rapids of Margaret River prevalent. Stairs lead down to a large storage room under the deck, and the pathways will take you to the edible gardens and river.
Calmness and privacy extend into the main bedroom and bathroom.
The feeling of being surrounded by nature is captured beautifully with the creative use of glass and sliding screens.
This romantic space overlooks the gardens and pond, with the views extending out across the forest.
Positioned behind the bedroom is the home library. This quiet and cosy area has a stylish fireplace and floor to ceiling built-in timber shelves to house an enviable collection of books. The space is complete with pond views and feels grand and intimate at the same time; the perfect place to read, contemplate and daydream. The home office will inspire productivity as it is an extension of the library with floor to ceiling windows flooding the room with natural light. The elegant space has a separate mezzanine workplace and private entrance.
Total immersion within the rich and ever-changing environment, the two-story luxe villa-style guest accommodation is linked with the main house by a narrow concrete walkway. The enthralling two-bedroom studio is set within the valley forest and offers a place of retreat for visiting family and guests.
A lush expanse of stately trees impeccably maintained mature gardens, Koi pond, water features and surrounding glass walls frame a perfectly designed home. The infinite detail and exceptional design created by Kerry Hill Architects set the highest quality standard within this “remarkable place in the forest.”
